Putting localism at the heart of a stronger, greener, fairer Scotland
The Scotland Loves Local campaign is a national movement which celebrates the transformational power of choosing local and supporting local businesses. It encourages people to think local first when they spend, visit and support the places they live in. Whether it’s shopping with independent businesses, enjoying local hospitality, visiting attractions, using local services or supporting community initiatives, every local choice helps strengthen the communities we call home.
At its heart, Scotland Loves Local is about recognising that the decisions we make every day have the power to make a real difference. Money spent locally stays in local economies for longer, supporting businesses, protecting jobs and helping communities to thrive. By choosing local, people are investing in the future of their towns, villages, neighbourhoods and high streets.

What began as a campaign to support businesses and communities recovering from the coronavirus pandemic has grown into an initiative that brings together people, businesses, local authorities and organisations. Through a range of initiatives, including the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card and awareness campaigning, Scotland Loves Local helps direct spending into local economies and highlights the incredible contribution that local businesses and community organisations make to everyday life.
The campaign is built on a simple but powerful message: when we support local, we all benefit. Strong local economies create vibrant places, generate opportunities, encourage community pride and help ensure that Scotland’s towns and neighbourhoods remain great places to live, work and visit.
Scotland Loves Local is more than a campaign – it’s a collective commitment to supporting the people, businesses and communities that make Scotland special. By choosing local whenever we can, we all play a part in creating a stronger, more resilient and more prosperous future for communities across the country.
