Ellie and Martyn are a husband and wife team who own the Ethical Gift Shop & Refillery:
“We opened the Ethical Gift Shop in 2007 offering an eclectic mix of Fairtrade, ethical and hand-crafted items from around the world, as well as local artisan produced crafts and curios. The refillery part of the shop was added in 2014, selling Fairtrade, local, organic and free-from produce, as well as eco friendly toiletries and household items.
“The idea behind setting up the business was to do something different, and to showcase both Fairtrade and ethically produced crafts which help people to live more sustainably. Work from over 80 local crafters is also featured in the shop. Everything from jewellery, photo frames and ornaments to musical instruments, stationery and giraffe statues! All of our items are handmade, most of them from recycled and eco friendly materials.
“We joined the Aberdeenshire Gift Card because it helps the local economy and will hopefully encourage people to shop locally too. Shopping locally reduces the need to travel and is better for the environment. If people spend their gift card with us, they will be able to find a completely unique gift that won’t have cost the earth. They can also use the card to stock up on their essentials in the refillery.”
