Giveaway campaign to mark launch of new Perth City & Towns Gift Card

  • By Scotland’s Town Centre Recovery Campaign

A Great Gift Card Giveaway campaign is due to go live during Scotland Loves Local Week to celebrate the launch of Perth’s new gift card – the Perth City & Towns Gift Card – and a new partnership with St Johnstone FC.

The new Perth City & Towns Gift Card features a vibrant new look and name, replacing the original Perth Gift Card introduced in 2015, and the Perth & Kinross Gift Card introduced in 2021 as part of the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card initiative. Over £600,000 of cards have been sold to date.

As part of the giveaway campaign, businesses in Perth city centre and nearby towns will be handing out small cards to their customers featuring a QR code with an instant chance to win a Perth City & Towns Gift Card.

One £250 gift card and five £50 gift cards will be given away during the campaign which kicks off on 23 August and runs through to 6 September.

Emily Queen, City and Towns Manager at Perth and Kinross Council said: “The launch of the new Perth City & Towns Gift Card builds on the success of the Perth Gift Card and Perth & Kinross Gift Card introduced alongside Scotland’s Towns Partnership.

The rebrand to the Perth City & Towns Gift Card allows us to refocus our efforts on supporting local businesses. Each business which previously accepted the old cards can automatically accept the Perth City & Towns Gift Card – and we are inviting new businesses from across the region to sign up too. It’s an easy, inclusive initiative that brings new customers and new revenue – it’s a no-brainer for businesses to join.”

A new partnership with St Johnstone FC will see the Perth City & Towns Gift Card being sold at the club’s new shop in Perth. The Club will also be accepting the Gift Card at the stadium.

St Johnstone FC Chief Executive Officer, Francis Smith, said: “At St Johnstone, we believe in the strength of community and the power of supporting one another. Supporting the Perth City & Towns Gift Card is a simple but powerful way to back our independent businesses in a city that we all care about.

“Our new High Street shop is the perfect location to buy your card – and we will be encouraging all of our fantastic fans to get behind it.”

Perth City & Towns Gift Card representatives will be visiting businesses in Perth and surrounding towns to hand out Great Gift Card Giveaway materials including the instant win cards. Businesses not yet signed up to accept the Perth City & Towns Gift Card will have the chance to do so. There are no additional costs for businesses to accept the card, with no additional equipment required.

McCash’s Country Store is one of the most popular businesses for people to spend their Perth local gift cards and is also a location to buy the card.

Manager Alastair Muirhead said: “In the years we’ve been accepting the cards, we’ve met so many lovely new faces who’ve become part of our regular crowd. With the Perth City & Towns Gift Card’s fresh new look and relaunch during Scotland Loves Local Week we’re looking forward to meeting even more locals who love the idea of shopping close to home, helping our community to thrive.”

The Perth City & Towns Gift Card is part of the award-winning Town & City Gift Card from Miconex. Over 200 Miconex programs now operate around the world, with £45 million in local spend delivered.

Miconex Chief Executive Officer Colin Munro said: “The Perth City & Towns Gift Card, like its previous iterations, is designed to divert online spend back into local communities. Perth is the home of the very first Town & City Gift Card and the blueprint for local gift cards globally.

“We’re proud to see the new Perth City & Towns Gift Card go live. What better time to shop local than Scotland Loves Local Week, and potentially win a Perth City & Towns Gift Card too.”Businesses wishing to join the Perth City & Towns Gift Card can email: [email protected]
