A number of businesses across Nairn have signed the Scotland Loves Local Pledge to show their support and commitment to choosing local.
Businesses in the seaside town made the pledge ahead of Scotland Loves Local Week which runs from August 26 until September 1.
They were visited by Nairn Connects BID manager Lucy Harding accompanied by Nairn and Cawdor Ward Councillor Barbara Jarvie.
The duo hit the streets of Nairn to engage with businesses and make them aware of the pledge which is a statement which demonstrates a determination to build a better future for communities, with signatories promising to prioritise turning to – and spending with – local people and businesses whenever it is possible to do so, boosting their local economy.
The initiative is run by Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP), the go-to body for towns and places and is the organisation which spearheads the whole Scotland Loves Local initiative, supported by the Scottish Government.
Nairn BID manager Lucy Harding said: “This has been a really positive opportunity for us to showcase what we do all year round, which is supporting shopping local in our fabulous town. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful array of shops in our thriving town centre, and we want to do all we can to support that. Adding our presence to this national campaign shows how important Nairn has become as a shopping destination.”
Councillor Babs Jarvie added: “I am delighted to be an ambassador for this Scotland Loves Local campaign for Nairn with its rolling blue seas and growth of local business ideas in this 20-minute town. It was an absolute delight visiting so many of the town’s businesses. Nairn is a place where you can come and shop, relax, eat, drink, be merry, enjoy and come back again.
“It is a perfect destination town where you can escape with the most from forest to golden coast, book tickets for a local show, ceilidh, or drop into a craft day. With the wealth of local businesses, you are spoilt for choice in Nairn. Nairn is the best place to put a smile on your face, food in your tummy and bargain in your pocket.”
Scotland’s Towns Partnership Chief Officer Kimberley Guthrie said: “We know how important it is to think local first, not just for local businesses and services, but to build stronger, more sustainable and prosperous places that are fit for the future. Signing the Scotland Loves Local Pledge is an important step to showcase your commitment to thinking, choosing and spending locally, and to demonstrate the support there is to help empower our communities.”
