The vital role that local businesses have to play in building better communities has been highlighted in a series of parliamentary motions marking Scotland Loves Local Week.
Politicians at Holyrood and Westminster have celebrated the work of enterprises in the areas they represent – highlighting the transformational impact local people can make by getting behind them.

That this House celebrates Scotland Loves Local Week which is essential in highlighting the importance of local businesses and social enterprises for the prosperity of our communities; commends Scotland’s Towns Partnerships for their hard work leading this campaign; recognises and supports the campaigns theme of Flying the Flag for Local Businesses; notes that, with national pride running high as Scotland competes in the FIFA World Cup, the campaign encourages communities across the country to show their support for local businesses and the people behind them during this competition; further notes the impact that the initiative has on keeping spending local which sustains jobs and strengthens local economies; and appreciates that our local businesses, social enterprises, music venues, bars, cafes and restaurants are essential for a healthy community and wishes them the very best in their campaign.

That this House recognises the importance of Scotland Loves Local Week 2026, which takes place from 13 to 20 June, in celebrating and supporting the businesses, organisations and local services that form the backbone of communities across Scotland; commends the work of Scotland’s Towns Partnership and its partners in promoting local economic sustainability and resilience; acknowledges the significant contribution that local businesses make to employment, economic growth and to the distinct character of towns, villages and high streets throughout the country; notes the challenges faced by many local businesses arising from economic uncertainty, rising costs and changing consumer habits; encourages residents, businesses and public bodies to support local procurement and spending wherever possible; welcomes initiatives that strengthen local supply chains and promote sustainable economic development; and calls on the Government to continue working with devolved Administrations, local authorities and business organisations to support thriving local economies and vibrant communities across Scotland.
