TV’s Sean Batty shares the magic of choosing local

TV weatherman Sean Batty popped into a spell-binding Scots shop as he celebrated the magic of the nation’s local businesses.

The STV weather presenter was at The Lonely Broomstick in Falkirk to mark the launch of Scotland Loves Local Week, which starts today.

Leslie Lenaghen, owner of the enchanting Harry Potter-inspired store stocking wands, broomsticks and potions, is among the business owners across the country who are celebrating the people who make Scotland’s places across the next seven days.

Sean, who has been an ambassador for Scotland Loves Local for a number of years, said: “People really do make places – and with a little determination, and a whole lot of heart, there are people who go above and beyond in every community just to make things better for all of us.

“Local businesses like Leslie’s really are magical. They’re at the heart of communities – and we can all make a positive difference to everyone’s future by getting behind them.

“Scotland Loves Local Week is a fantastic chance to shine a spotlight on them and the other organisations working to make the places we call home better.”

The Lonely Broomstick is among the businesses which are part of the Falkirk Delivers Business Improvement District (BID).

Its manager, Elaine Grant, said: “Every penny spent in businesses in any of the nation’s local businesses is an investment in everyone’s future. Local businesses are there for us. We too should be there for them.”

Scotland Loves Local Week is spearheaded by Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP) to highlight its campaign for people to build stronger, more sustainable futures for their community by supporting the businesses in their area, potentially injecting millions of pounds into regional economies. It is supported by the Scottish Government.

You can help celebrate the people who make our places during Scotland Loves Local Week by following STP on social media, joining the conversation using the hashtag #ScotlandLovesLocal.
